This is a Raw 2008 Big Leaf Pu Erh Cake, produced in Meng Hai, Bo Lang Mountain, Lao Ban Zhang old arbor tea tree garden. These old and ancient tea trees have been around for supposedly over one thousand years, and Lao Ban Zhang tea trees are some of the most prestigious and sought after.
Being a 2008 Raw Pu Erh, there’s definitely some good aging to this tea already, and the tobacco earthy notes are starting to manifest itself, while the aftertaste and finish is definitely of the Lao Ban Zhang old tea tree varietal, since it is profound and complex, with a strong yet smooth lingering finish.
We recommend using Chinese Yixing (purple clay) or porcelain tea ware. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water. Use about 2 grams of tea leaves (1-2 teaspoons) for every 150ml of water. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 100°c (212°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing. Gradually increase steeping time for subsequent brewing.
