What’s up my tea lovers! Just got in our directly imported new 2022 Duck Shit Oolong AKA 鴨屎香單從! Back in 2019, which seems like a million years ago…I traveled with my son, who was 12 at the time, to Phoenix Estate, in China’s Guangdong province, and met up with Single Bush Dan Chong tea producers! They were my lovely host for the week and taught me everything I needed to know about all the different types of Phoenix Dan Chong teas. Duck Shit…which is notorious for its funny name, is really just the name of this particular mother plant, where legend has it that its name was given because the original growers didn’t want people to steal the mother plant, and thus named it Duck Shit, in hopes that such an ugly name will deter people away from stealing their mother plants. Despite its funny name, this tea, which technically belongs to the Oolong tea category, is deeply complex and full bodied, with a long bright orchid-like aroma and aftertaste, and lingering roasted sweet finish.
